The battery is the power source of a cordless tool. Older units have Ni-Cad (nickel-cadmium) batteries and most newer units have Li-Ion (Lithium-Ion) batteries, both of which are rechargeable. When the tool is used and the Li-Ion battery becomes empty/dead, recharge immediately to extend the life of the battery. When you kill a NiCad battery, it’s best to leave it drained until you need to use the tool again, as they lose their charge relatively quickly. However (for Ni-Cad), it’s best to charge right away once you notice a significant loss in power. Also, don’t leave the battery in the charger once it’s charged.
